Botulinum toxin in Olbia

What it is
It is a purified protein — type A botulinum toxin — and a prescription-only medicine: only a doctor can prescribe and inject it. The muscle relaxes temporarily and the skin above stops folding.
I mainly treat the upper face: the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes. I also use botulinum toxin for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) of the face, hands and underarms, and for bruxism (teeth grinding or clenching). We discuss these uses at your consultation.
The toxin does not fill: if the line is etched even when your face is still, it softens it but does not erase it. In that case we talk it through at the consultation.
Who it is for
- Lines that appear with movement and are not yet visible at rest
- Pronounced frown lines between the eyebrows, even when your face is relaxed
- Lines that are starting to set: the aim is to prevent them from becoming more established
- Slight asymmetries of facial movement that can be rebalanced
What happens during treatment
First I update your medical history — current medication, previous treatments — and I look at how your face moves: I ask you to frown, to raise your eyebrows, to narrow your eyes. I choose the injection points according to how your face moves.
Then I disinfect the area and give micro-injections with a very fine needle, without anaesthetic. The injection takes a few minutes; the full session, assessment included, about thirty.
How long the effect lasts
The effect appears between the third and seventh day and settles around day fifteen. I arrange a review at two weeks and wait until then to assess the result or make any adjustments.
On average it lasts about six months. It depends on the dose, the area, the strength of the muscle, your metabolism.
As the effect wears off, muscle activity gradually returns.
Comfort and recovery
The injections are brief; discomfort and pain vary with individual sensitivity.
Small raised bumps remain and settle within twenty to thirty minutes. A bruise, especially around the eyes, can be covered with make-up from the next day.
In the first few hours:
- Do not lie down and do not keep your head lowered for at least four hours
- Do not massage or rub the treated area
- No strenuous exercise for the rest of the day
- No saunas, steam rooms or intense heat for twenty-four hours
There is no real recovery time: you go back to work straight away.
Combining treatments
The toxin acts on movement only. That is why I often combine it with:
- 01 Biorevitalisation The toxin softens the fold; biorevitalisation works on the surface: hydration, texture, radiance.
- 02 Facial volume The toxin stops the movement that keeps deepening the line; the filler corrects the fold already etched in.
- 03 Biostimulators If the tissue has thinned, the biostimulator works over time on the quality and thickness of the skin.

Frequently asked questions
Is it bad for your health?
Botulinum toxin is a medicine and treatment carries risks. Before proceeding, I assess your medical history, the medicines you take and the product indications. At your consultation I explain the expected benefits, limitations and possible side effects, also described on this page.
Will I still be able to move my face?
There is a reduction of movement: that is how the treatment works. A frozen appearance results from an excessive dose or poor placement. I start cautiously because the dose cannot be removed once injected; more can be added at the fifteen-day review. If you want to keep more movement, tell me at the consultation: I work with lower doses.
At what age might treatment be appropriate?
There is no set age. Usually you begin when an expression line starts to stay visible with the face at rest; if your expressions are very marked, treatment can start earlier, as prevention, so the line does not set. We assess it at the consultation, watching how your face moves.
Can I have treatment in summer?
Yes: botulinum toxin has no contraindications linked to sun exposure.
